Smartly designed Hill House plays with balance and gravity

Defying all rules of balance and gravity is the attention grabbing project by Andrew Maynard, named as Hill House. The project involved coming up with an extension for a contemporary dwelling that was located near Melbourne. The design is nothing like we get to see every day and will bring a new vision in terms to design both inside and outside space of a house.

The two story extension, which was added in the 90s, blocked sun rays from entering the inside that created a dark atmosphere inside. Andrew was asked to come up with a new structure that will create an interesting space in the backyard. A cantilevered box was placed above the structure that faces the sun. This will keep out harsh sun rays in summers and makes sure warm sun rays kiss the inside when the outside temperature dips.

The design has an interesting slope, which will become a perfect platform to lounge under the deep blue skies. The backyard gets an interesting set up and also borrows a bit of landscaping from the green spaces present in the neighborhood. The high windows overlook the trees and give a sense of serenity. A one meter wide fence was created for the Hill House and the desired head height was achieved by lowering the corridor inside the site. A bench seat is created when the level of the floor changes. Hill House has been given a design that is worth gawking at and us definitely unique.
