They have tried to integrate the open yet private space of single family homes with the density and convenience of an urban setting. The result is in the form of Parcel D, which is a lively and marvelous green space and housing structure developed in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The design could amaze you by its specialized use of vegetated surfaces to blur the external form of this building so the residents could be offered a more intimate environment along with greener air to breathe in.
Parcel D is a unique package of 165 units that together share a large central courtyard. The interior greenscape of this structure is a micro climate in itself. Due to cool breezes and constant evapotranspiration, this micro climate offers residential space cooling through a decrease in airborne pollution. Its rainwater collection and storage system supports the water requirements to maintain the greenery. Additionally, this single-family support system gets a refreshing feel and look, with various operable windows, as well as through foliage-wrapped front and back balconies.
For relaxation purposes, the Parcel D residents may visit an immediately accessible pool and beautifully created gardens. They also have access to several other utilities, including a gym, a cafe and a restaurant. There is a retail facility at the ground level, along with an efficient parking system that allows a spacious to-and-fro area for pedestrians within the complex. Parcel D is a good example of a green multi-facility housing structure.
