LEGO Greenhouse: An awe-inspiring installation made from LEGO bricks

LEGO greenhouse

If you thought that LEGO bricks could only make children happy and bring out their creative end, then Sebastian Bergne is here to prove you wrong. The designer, based in London, has constructed a greenhouse that has been made using nothing but LEGO parts. The fully functional LEGO Greenhouse will be a part of the London Design Week 2011.

Bergne was hired by LEGO UK to craft an eye-catching public installation on a large scale using nothing but LEGO bricks. Duncan Titmarsh, a LEGO certified professional, crafted the frame and even installed the structure. The magnificent structure ornaments the north-east piazza of Covent Garden, London. Covent Garden is associated with the former fruit and vegetable market in the central square, which has been converted into a popular tourist and shopping site. The shape of this installation has fetched heavy inspiration from the history of Covent Garden. It features an inclined roof that bears a heavy resemblance with a regular greenhouse, which gets a magical form when sunlight strikes its surface. The greenhouse gets a new life when dusk sets in. It looks like a sparkling box that has been brightly lit and the plants inside suddenly come to life.

The walls, floor and even earth of LEGO Greenhouse has been made using building bricks that house live vegetables and plants. These plants get an apt growing environment and make the unique greenhouse fully functional. This is the world’s very first greenhouse that has been made using LEGO bricks. The stunning piece of art with living green life stands in front of the popular covered market. The temporary installation can be seen till September 25, 2011 as a part of the London Design Week 2011.
