‘4M’ PC artifact and computer monitor makes a great point for woodpunk

The steampunk PC genre is no longer as “out there” as it was a few decades ago and modders are looking into more diverse materials to make their PC artifacts stand pt from the crowd. This small wooden computer monitor and PC artifact called the ‘4M’ comes to us courtesy of Swedish design student Lars Hansson who likes to go around by the name Love Hultén and might we say, the woodwork really does infuse the design with a certain Victorian charm.

The design is inspired by the character HAL 9000 from Arthur C. Clarke’s science fiction saga 2001: A Space Odyssey as well as mainstream steampunk designs. The piece is described by its creator as being a semi-organic design that looks to fill the gap between nature and technology and the aesthetics of the design are created to reflect how organic and innate technology has become to our existence and just like we take the growth of trees for granted, technologies like computers and PCs too have become similarly unintimidating and natural for modern users.

The 4M comes with a brass window and a ball joint handle joystick upfront with the front panel of the CPU being fashioned out of walnut wood. The dark wood instantly transports users to the romance of a bygone era while the view of the CPU cooler via a magnifying lens makes the piece slightly eccentric and interesting as well. The minimalist 19th century inspired computer monitor stand is also fashioned out of walnut lumber and comes fitted with a tilting mount and cord and brass nuts and bolts that finish its woodpunk appeal.
