Treehouses are the ultimate dreams and fantasies that everyone has had since childhood. We think of treehouses and a solid wooden structure atop trees comes to our minds instantly, a place where people used to stay in order to protect themselves from wild animals and predators. However, today, the concept of treehouses has been modernized and a lot of innovative treehouses are being built for commercial purposes like hotels, lodgings, resorts or even a recreational structure. The treehouses no longer have the conventional square shaped wooden structure and they are no longer affixed on to trees. Here are ten such brilliant examples of modern treehouses that are being used for commercial purposes.

This tea house was designed by Terunobu Fujimori who teaches architecture at the University of Tokyo. The Too High Tea house was Terunobu’s dream which was realized in the spring of 2004. This tea house on stilts was built in his father’s garden and it was the designer’s most cherished dream project.

2. The Nescafe Treehouse

Designed by Takashi Kobayashi, a leading treehouse builder of Japan, the Nescafe Treehouse was built for a purpose as its name so suggests. This treehouse was designed for a Nescafe television commercial for Japan and is located in Hokkaido. Kobayashi has given a unique form to the house as it is shaped like a birds nest and is 9 feet in diameter and about 12 feet above ground level. The way to approach this exquisite treehouse is via a spiral staircase.

3. The TreeHouse Workshop

The TreeHouse Workshop is precisely what its name suggests – a company on a tree. This organization built atop a tree is based in Seattle and is engaged in the business of designing treehouses. The company builds around one treehouse in one month and have experienced carpenters and builders for carrying on their projects.

4. Everybody’s Treehouse

This treehouse is for everyone. Built by Bill Allen’s non-profit company, this treehouse is designed to be accessible to children that suffer from handicaps and chronic illnesses. A ramp is affixed from the bottom to the top so that the children need not take the ladder to climb up. This treehouse cost Mr. Allen $450,000 and is located in Mount Airy Forest park in Cincinnati, Ohio. The ramp is quite expansive as it winds across fourteen trees and climbs up to fifteen feet before it finally arrives and the 2000 sq foot treehouse that give it a fairytale look. This treehouse gives the visitor a surreal experience of the forest from all perspectives.

5. Treehouses of Montville

Treehouses of Montville is located on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland near Brisbane in Australia. It is located in an expansive twenty acre land of natural rainforest and is quite close to the famous Kondalila Falls National Park. The treehouses comprise of 24 luxury cabins along with spas, entertainments and kitchen facilities. This is a great weekend getaway that offers you the comfort of five star luxury atop trees.

6. Kadir’s Treehouses

Kadir’s Treehouses is comprised of three hundred beds and is located in Olympos, a village in Turkey. Since Turkey has become a chose and favorite destination for the backpackers who are constantly on the go, this affordable tree lodging provides a great ambiance along the Mediterranean coastline.

7. The Treehouse Lodge

The Treehouse Lodge is located in a parkland in Costa Rica and has a terrific view of the Atlantic Ocean and plenty of adventure. The Lodge is built in a sustainable fashion and looks mesmerizing as it is surrounded with tranquility and nature all around.

8. The Cedar Creek treehouse

The Cedar Creek treehouse is an eco friendly mountain retreat that is located adjacent to the Mt. Ranier. Your cabin can be located fifty meters above ground level with green luscious surroundings and the river meandering across. This treehouse is not the typical treehouse when it comes to its outer appearance. Instead of the conventional square shaped wooden shack, there is a dome like structure that does not impact the trees quite as much and it is suspended from the trees rather than being affixed between them. This treehouse is used for meetings, functions and residential meditation as well.
